Agitated locals in Jaunpur attacked a car driver after he mowed down people standing at a tea stall on Wednesday morning.
A video of the incident showed an angry mob attacking the car.
Five people were reportedly injured by the speeding car and three among them succumbed to their injuries. Others are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Reports said that the daughter of one Omkar Yadav of Samansa in Zafarabad was married on Tuesday. The wedding procession had come from Dhaurahra of Sirkoni. The bride bid farewell on Wednesday morning. Dev Ashish Yadav along with his friend left for the house of his sister’s in-laws in a Mahindra XUV-300 to deliver some gifts and other articles.
While returning after delivering the goods, at around 9:30 in the morning, Dev Ashish, who was driving a car, suddenly dozed off and the car went out of control and mowed down five people drinking tea at the roadside stall.
Sevalal of Unchvapar in Jalalpur, Rajdev Yadav of Bighi, Jawahir Pal of Naipura in Zafarabad, Shahnawaz of Naipura and one more, who were standing in front of a stall were critically injured.
Soon after the accident, the agitated locals caught Dev and brutally assaulted him before some passersby rescued him and later handed him over to the local police.
Police took the injured to the district hospital where doctors pronounced Shahnawaz, Sevalal and Rajdev Yadav dead. Jawahir was referred to BHU Trauma Centre.
Police took Dev Ashish and his companion into custody and registered a case in this regard.
