Embarking on a massive Covid vaccination drive starting Tuesday, the UP government aims to inoculate over one crore people in the month of June. The drive has been coined as ‘Mission June’.
“Considered to be the biggest vaccination drive across the globe, it will be conducted in all 75 districts of the state to safeguard people against the raging wave of COVID-19. To achieve the target, nearly 6,000 vaccination centres will be set up across the state,” a government spokesman said in Lucknow on Monday.
“Special camps have also been set up for journalists, government employees, and members of the judiciary. In this regard, four workplace vaccination centres will be established in each district — one for the district court, two for government employees, and one for media personnel. The vaccination drive will not only reduce the risk of infection but also help Uttar Pradesh counter the pandemic more effectively,” the official said.
While preparations were underway on a war-footing, the chief minister instructed the officials to ensure that all sections of the society got the jab in a hassle-free manner. The programme will focus on beneficiaries in both 18+ and 45+ age groups.
“Our goal is to vaccinate one crore people in June. We have a sufficient amount of vaccine vials available to meet the target,” the chief minister said while addressing a high-level meeting in Lucknow on Tuesday. He instructed the Health department officials to stay in constant touch with the Centre and vaccine manufacturing companies.
Directing the officials to make special arrangements for socially and economically weaker sections in the aggressive campaign against COVID-19, the CM announced a special vaccination drive for drivers, vendors and rickshaw-pullers from June 15 as they interact with numerous people in their daily work.
