After Bulandshahr, where a youth was killed for refusing to compromise with the rapist of his sister, now a minor girl was forced to end her life in Sambhal after her gang-rape accused harassed her for a compromise.
The girl’s family accused the local police of patronising the criminals and claimed that the gang-rape case was registered about 40 days back but no action was taken against the accused but after the girl committed suicide, one of the named accused was arrested within hours of her death.
The senior officers, however, denied the charge and claimed that the arrest was made only after investigation.
According to reports, a 16-year-old girl hailing from Atwan village of Kudh under Fatehgarh police station of Sambhal district, committed suicide on Wednesday evening. Her family claimed that the girl took the extreme step as the accused who gang-raped her were harassing the girl and putting pressure on her to take back the case or face consequences. The victim did not get justice from the local police.
The relatives of the deceased alleged that the minor girl was gang-raped. On July 15, on behalf of the victim, the family members had filed a complaint against the accused in Fatehgarh police station. But the police did not take any action against the accused after registering a case against them.
The victim and her relatives had met the DIG, SP and CO of the area several times and pleaded for action against the accused. But the police did not take any action against the accused. Meanwhile, the accused continued to threaten and pressurise the victim and her family members for a settlement. Because of this, the girl was mentally disturbed. Hurt by not getting justice, she committed suicide by hanging herself in her room.
After the rape victim's suicide came to light, an accused was arrested within five hours.
Meena Devi (name changed), the mother of the gang-raped minor girl, alleged that the police did not make any effort to arrest the accused after registering a case against them. Rather, the police station's Inspector Anil Kumar and other policemen were constantly visiting the house of the accused, she added.
Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra said that on July 15, the relatives of the minor girl who was raped had filed a complaint of rape against one of the accused in the Kudh Fatehgarh police station. He said on the basis of the complaint, the police had registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act. But when the victim's statement was recorded during the investigation of the case, she had stated she was gang-raped by three other accused also.
Now, after her suicide, the police have added Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code in the case registered against all the accused of gang-rape. One of the accused, Viresh Kumar, has been arrested. Police surveillance and SOG teams have been deployed to arrest the other accused identified as Jinesh, Suvendra, and Bipin. The body of the girl was sent for autopsy.
Meanwhile, a 54-year-old man fighting to get justice in his brother's murder case ended up taking his life on Thursday over alleged 'harassment' by local police officer in Kannauj's Jalalpur Thakuran village.
The deceased, Tukman, used to live in a house constructed in an agriculture field and on Thursday morning he was found hanging from a tree, police said.
His family members have alleged that he was disturbed as a police sub-inspector was threatening to send him to jail in connection with his brother's murder.
The agitated villagers staged a protest after keeping the body on the eastern bypass road, disrupting vehicular traffic for around three hours.
Tukman’s distant relative Anil, said on the night of August 21, his brother Kailash Rathore was murdered with an axe, after which a report was filed against three people of the village. Anil alleged that the sub-inspector, instead of apprehending the people named in the FIR for his brother’s murder, was threatening Tukman of sending him to jail. The family members said they would not allow the body to be moved from the spot till they got justice.
Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Arvind Kumar assured of action after proper inquiry into the allegations.
