Tension prevailed in Saharanpur after a minor Dalit girl was poisoned to death following a botched-up rape attempt on Thursday. The victim, found abandoned in a forest in Kotwali Dehat was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The local police acted promptly and arrested the accused but heavy police force was deployed to avert any exigency.
As per reports, a class IX girl student left home to take examination at her school on Thursday. On her way to school, she was intercepted and taken to a hotel by a neighbour from her native village Sahil. The miscreant acted fresh with her and later tried to rape her which was vehemently resisted by the victim.
Irked by the girl’s refusal, Sahil forced her to eat some food laced with a poisonous substance and later abandoned her in the nearby Bhojpuri forest area.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family was informed by the class teacher that the girl did not appear for the exams after which they started a search. On being informed by one of the victim’s friends about Sahil's involvement with her, the harried kin confronted the miscreant to enquire about their daughter’s whereabouts. There Sahil abused the kin but later confessed that he had dumped the girl in the forest.
Subsequently, the kin rushed to the forest and found the girl lying there and frothing from the mouth. While being taken to a hospital, the victim narrated her ordeal to her family. However at the hospital, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Upon learning about the brutal incident, hundreds of local residents thronged the hospital and protested outside demanding immediate arrest of the accused. The victim’s family members also submitted a video of the girl’s confession with the police.
The police registered a case and arrested Sahil on charges of attempted rape and murder.
Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal activists in Saharanpurn stated that the case was yet another glaring example of the rampant ‘love jihad’ across the state where non-Muslim girls are targeted for sexual harassment and exploitation by Muslims and demanded death penalty for the accused Sahil.
