Minister slams opp for questioning UP model of Covid management

UP government spokesman and cabinet minister Sidharth Nath Singh on Sunday slammed the opposition for questioning the success of the UP model of Covid management. He said that UP boasts of the highest recovery rate, lowest positivity rate and highest testing.

“UP’s COVID-19 response outperforms that of Maharashtra and Delhi as it has recorded a drastic decline in deaths besides fresh and active cases. The micro-planning, early detection and proper treatment helped flatten the curve in UP. Those who question the efficiency of the UP model time and again should first take note of its success,” Singh said.

Lashing out at the opposition, Singh said that Covid cases in the most populous state (UP) have seen a drastic decline all because of the effective implementation of an aggressive T3 regime and planned partial corona curfew by the chief minister with a view to safeguarding both life and livelihood. “It is evident from UP’s Covid figures that the raging pandemic has been tamed and controlled in the state,” the minister said.

“Major states such as Delhi and Maharashtra have been reeling under the devastating impact of the second wave that has led to an alarming spike in daily cases. UP, under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, has controlled the spread of coronavirus,” he added.

“Delhi and Maharashtra  registered a massive spike in daily Covid cases in the second wave, whereas UP, with a population of 24 crore, has brought the daily caseload to nearly 1,000 cases now,” Singh said.

“In a sharp contrast to UP, Maharashtra reported over 14,000 new cases on Saturday. While the test positivity rate remained at 0.3 per cent in UP, it was recorded at 16.26 per cent in Maharashtra and 0.68 per cent in Delhi, which is 1/10th of UP’s population,” he pointed out.

He said swift measures, alertness and bold decisions coupled with presence of medical resources and planned short-term corona curfew have resulted in limiting the outbreak in UP, whereas Maharashtra and Delhi, even with complete lockdown, have not been able to limit the number of fresh cases and Covid deaths.

The case fatality rate (CFR) has also been at 1.2 per cent in UP while it stands in Maharashtra at 1.71 per cent and in Delhi’s at 1.7 per cent.

He said that deaths per million have been the highest in Delhi (313), followed by Maharashtra (127) as compared to UP (26). As Covid recovery rate in UP continues to go upwards, the minister said that the state has also recorded the recovery rate at a remarkable 97.7 per cent, surpassing the national average.
