The nephew of an Uttar Pradesh minister was finally arrested, allegedly for trying to ram his car into a group of restaurant workers for refusing to serve him, police said on Friday.

The minister’s nephew was earlier booked for making an attempt on the lives of hotel staff besides damaging the hotel’s property.

Bareilly’s Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Bhatti, on Friday, confirmed to media persons that during the probe into the incident, they arrested the accused, Amit Kumar Saxena, on Thursday evening. While Saxena was arrested, his two aides have been detained, he added

According to a complaint filed by hotel owner Naresh Kashyap's son Sushant Kashyap, Saxena had allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh as 'rangdari' (extortion). Saxena is the nephew of Arun Kumar, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Forest and Environment, Zoological Garden, Climate Change.

When contacted by some media persons, the minister said, “The police must act as per the law, and there should be no laxity in this.”

A case has been registered against Saxena and his two aides under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 147 (punishment for rioting), 384 (punishment for extortion), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, Bhati disclosed.

The police said the other two accused were being interrogated.

It may be mentioned that the accused and his aides had abused the staff for failing to serve his colleague as the restaurant had closed. Later he left the hotel only to return after some time and tried to mow down the staff eating outside the restaurant, Bhati said.

Meanwhile in Kushinagar, where some students were brutally assaulted by the college administration for carrying mobile phones on a college tour, the local police finally registered a case against the principal and others.

Reports said that the police registered a case against Father John Joseph Katapally, principal of St Thresus School.  The parents of the assaulted students first complained about the assault to the police on Wednesday, but when the police did not take any action, they filed a complaint to the superintendent of police and requested him to register a case.

The students allege that the principal has threatened the students that those reporting the incident at their home will be expelled from the school.

On October 8, 96 students along with nine teachers, including Father John, had gone on a Nainital tour from the school campus. After reaching Nainital the next day, the teachers instructed all the children to deposit their mobile phones. In compliance with the instruction, 20 students deposited their mobile phones. Meanwhile, Father John caught some youths with a mobile phone and he lost his cool and with the help of some other staff members, he mercilessly beat them and 16-year-old Ardash Pandey and Rituraj Jaiswal fell unconscious while Manoj Pandey and Aditya Dhanraj were seriously injured and were admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Lucknow.
