Minister asks officials to speed up recovery of electricity dues ‘But no harassment of power consumers’

Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma has directed the UP Power Corporation Limited to knock the doors of the defaulters having unpaid electricity bills of three months instead of snapping their power supply.

He said disconnection of the power supply was no solution to deal with the problem of outstanding dues and the consumers should be motivated to clear the dues as per schedule.

The minister asked UPPCL to ensure uninterrupted power supply and replacement of damaged transformers without delay. He also directed officials for improvement in overall services for the consumers.

The minister, who inspected several 33/11 LV sub-stations in Lucknow on Friday, expressed concern over the frequent damages in transformers and directed a probe into the matter. He said laxity in maintaining uninterrupted power supply would not be tolerated as getting uninterrupted power supply was the basic right of the consumers. He also asked the UPPCL chairman to ensure prompt disposal of the grievances of the power consumers.

The minister said it was a matter of concern that transformers were getting damaged due to overload and long-lasting measures should be taken for the solution of the problem. The minister also inspected the transformer repair workshop at Talkatora. He said the engineers of the UPPCL should regularly inspected the power sub-stations and inspect the power feeders
