Hyderabad-based political outfit Majlis Ittehadul Musalmeen (MIM) has decided to field a dalit candidate for the byelection in Bikapur Assembly seat of Faizabad.
The Bikapur seat has been a pocketborrough of the ruling Samajwadi Party and Muslims of the segment have been loyal voters of the party. Byelection to this seat has been necessitated by the death of the sitting SP legislator Mitrasen Yadav. The SP has fielded his son Anandsen Yadav, who was earlier a minister in the Mayawati-led BSP government in 2007.
