metro rail in the state capital

Published on:

A little headway has come to the fore in run up to the realisation of the dream project of the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to have metro rail in the state capital. The state government is still trying to resolve several intricacies lying before the mega project and has refused to set any deadline for the completion of the project.

A high level meeting was held on Thursday regarding the realisation of the metro rail in the state capital. The meeting was headed by the Chief Secretary Javed Usmani and official of the state governments besides the officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

After the meeting Javed Usmani said that a committee has been constituted to look into the legal aspect of the project.

"Whether the project must come into the realisation on the pattern of the Delhi Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act 2002 or the state government will have to enact a separate law of its own to accomplish the task" he said adding that the concerned committee has been asked to submit its report within 15 days. However the source claimed that it was most unlikely to follow the DMRC Act as it was a central act and in most likelihood the state government has to enact its own act in this regard.

The Chief Secretary also said that report has been also sought from the concerned committee within 15 days regarding the alignment of the proposed metro rail. It is learnt that a committee has been set up headed by Housing Secretary Rajeev Agrawal which will submit its report about the alignment. In response to a question, Usmani said that most of the route of the proposed metro rail will be alleviated and rest will be underground. " The construction of underground routes costs far more than allevaited" he said.
