Objecting to the state government decision to raze illegal colonies Samajwadi party MlA Ravidas Mehrotra said that Government should initiate process to provide cheap houses to the poor instead of razing their houses where they are living for years.

“On the name of illegal colonies government should not raze shanties of people living around nullahs. If the officials of the development authority continue with this proposal lucknow would lose its soul,” Mehritra said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

The Samajwadi Party legislator from lucknow (central) held a meeting of the people whose colonies around nullah has been declared illegal. The lucknow Development Authority has given them a notice to vacate the land.

“The lDA should revisit this decision. Poor people live in these shanties. They are forced to live here because they do not have a place to live. If lDA wants these people to vacate the land it should first provide them land,” he said.

Throwing a gauntlet he said even if these poor people’s colonies are illegal he will try to protect their rights at any cost. No one should displace them. The people who are living on nazool land should be given ownership rights, he said.

Recently, the state government has issued directives asking DMs to vacate government from illegal possession following which directives were issued to raze these illegal colonies.
