A medicine trader and his wife committed suicide after killing their two children in Katra locality of Shahjahanpur on Monday.
Police said that medicine shop owner Akhilesh Gupta, his wife Rishu and two children were found hanging from the ceiling. A suicide note was also found on the table.
The circle officer (City) said that financial crisis was mentioned in the suicide letter.
According to reports, 43-year-old medicine dealer Akhilesh Gupta, his 40-year-old wife Rishu, 12-year-old son Shivang and 6-year-old daughter Abhijeeta were found dead in their house.
On Monday, around 11:30, a milkman came to Akhilesh's house to give milk. Rishu took the milk and went inside, closing the door. At around 1:15 pm, a person from the locality went to Akhilesh's house for some work and saw that the door was slightly open. He called Akhilesh and when there was no response from inside he suspected some foul play and called some neighbours before entering the house.
The medicine shop was on the ground floor of the house and when the neighbours reached the second floor, they saw that the bodies of Akhilesh and Rishu were hanging from the ceiling in the lobby. After this, Abhijeeta and Shivang were also found hanging in a room.
CO City said that in the suicide letter Akhilesh Gupta had mentioned that financial constraints pushed him and his wife them to end their lives.
Akhilesh was originally a resident of Mohalla Kachcha Katra in Faridpur, Bareilly. For the past many years he was living in Shahjahanpur. He had moved into his newly-built house on Diwali.
Other members of his family had been called from Faridpur. A case was registered and further investigations were on.
Meanwhile in Amethi, a 55-year-old man was beaten to death by five people in Hanswa village over a land dispute, police said on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday when Gurubaksh Pasi was in his field where his neighbour Krishna Kumar reached with four others -- Ram Sagar, Ram Kailash, Suraj and Dhuru Raj -- and beat him up with sticks, the victim's wife Shyam Kala said. Gurubaksh was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. Station House Officer of Mohanganj, Bharat Upadhyay, said the incident was a fall-out of a decade-old land dispute between the victim and the accused. An FIR was registered and the police were trying to nab the assailants.
