Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayawati welcomed the directive of the Supreme Court to the Centre to appoint the lokpal at the earliest with suggesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the aspiration of the country to fight against corruption.
“It is unfortunate that the BJP government at the Centre was using delaying tactics to appoint the lokpal which proves that it failed commitment to fight against corruption,” she said. In a statement released here on Thursday morning, Mayawati said that the lokpal Bill was introduced in 2013 and implemented from January, 2014 but surprisingly, the BJP, which claim itself as a Party of honesty and corruption free was not ready to appoint the lokpal.
``The Modi government should not delay further to appoint the lokpal so that the corruption should be prevented at the higher places,” she added. BSP supremo charged that BJP just talk of having `zero tolerance’ towards corruption but the truth was contrary to it. ``lokpal was not appointed by BJP till now just as Narendra Modi did not want any constitutional authority which could expose the wrong doings in his government hence the lokpal Bill is gathering dust”, alleged Mayawati while challenging Modi that if he is serious towards fighting corruption than a lokpal must be appointed without any further delay.
