Mayawati urges people to vote BJP out of power

As the third phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh was underway, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday urged the people to vote out the ruling party for giving false promises of providing them employment.

In a series of tweets, the BSP chief said that to get rid of all kinds of false promises of the Bharatiya Janata Party, it was necessary that the ruling party was changed.

In another tweet, she said, "The ruling party's wrong policies which made the poor people poorer should not be trusted anymore and that BSP should be trusted."

Mayawati added, "The biggest failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party is not being able to provide employment to the people. In fact, the employment opportunities that were there were also snatched away from the people"

She added, "The biggest responsibility of the government in current time is to give livelihood opportunities to the people."

She appealed to the people that in the third phase of voting in the 59 assembly seats of 16 districts of UP on Sunday, everyone must cast their vote with great enthusiasm and save themselves by their vote. Along with this, a pleasant change of power in UP is also necessary to get rid of all kinds of false and constant deceit of the opposition parties, she added.

Earlier on Saturday, Mayawati had alleged that people, especially those belonging to minority communities, were living in fear under the BJP government and promised that her party would work to ensure social justice to all if voted to power in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a rally in Ambedkarnagar, the former chief minister also accused the Samajwadi Party of working against the interests of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

"Dalits, Backwards and especially Muslim communities have been living in fear and terror under this government. Harassment on the basis of caste and religion will not be allowed in any case under BSP rule," the BSP supremo said.

"We are fighting to form a majority government like 2007 and to get rid of the casteist, narrow-minded, arrogant and dictatorial rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party. You will have to support BSP, the only party that cares for all sections of society to ensure this," Mayawati said.

The BSP came to power in UP in 2007, winning 206 assembly seats out of the total 403. Its seat count was reduced to 80 in 2012 and just 19 in the 2017 election. Unlike the ruling BJP and the SP, the BSP's campaigning in UP has remained subdued. However, her party leaders insist that Mayawati has a loyal voter base and she had kept away from the limelight even before her 2007 victory.
