Mayawati slams RSS and PM

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati finally lambasted at the Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for raking up the `triple talaq’ issue just before the 2017 Assembly elections as they just wanted to polarise the vote bank. She demanded that the row over the above should be left to the community for making a consensus on the matter and the PM should not force his opinion and decision on the believers of any particular religion by “following the RSS agenda”.

In a statement released here on Tuesday morning, Mayawati, who so far not reacted on the `triple talaq’ issue, said that under Article 25 of the Constitution every citizen of the country has a freedom of religion and no one can intervene into it. However Modi toeing the agenda of the RSS has raked up the issue of triple talaq just to get political benefit in the elections, she alleged. ``BJP and its central government led by Narendra Modi has now started a new controversy over Muslim personal law, triple talaq and common civil code before the Assembly elections in some states to serve its petty politics. BSP strongly condemns it,” Mayawati added while attacking Modi.

Mayawati claimed, “It is up to the Muslims and their clerics to decide on the matter and they should evolve a consensus on triple talaq and no one else should interfere into it.” Only on Monday, the Prime Minister during a rally in Mahoba in Bundelkhand area had voiced the triple talaq issue saying BJP would rally to give justice to women of Muslim community, who have been facing problem due to this system. Earlier, Mayawati had avoided to comment on the matter, but suddenly after the Prime Minister’s statement, the BSP came forward to give its reaction on the issue. The Centre has also opposed the triple talaq system in the court.
