After maintaining silence for more than 36 hours, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati finally lashed out at the Narendra Modi government charging it of imposing an `economic emergency’ in the country by demonitising Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
Addressing media persons in lucknow on Thursday, Mayawati said, “People across the country are facing problems and the poor are facing starvation due to the decision. After two years and a half in power, the BJP has nothing to showcase to the people and is hence doing this to divert public attention.”
She added, “If Modi was really serious in curbing black money and corruption, then big industrial houses should have been raided to flush out stashed funds instead of putting 125 crore people to misery. But he can not help it as these industrialists are his friends.”
“Prima facie the decision of the NDA government is anti-people and anti-country which has created anarchy like situation,” she said.
Mayawati alleged, In its short regime, the BJP has made financial arrangements for the next 100 years by stashing funds in foreign countries and benefiting the big industrial houses. So it is convenient for them to impose economic emergency.’’
Comparing the BJP with the Congress, Mayawati said that they were two sides of the same coin and said that people will teach the BJP a lesson in the coming Assembly polls. Hower, the BSP chief did not attack arch rival Samajwadi Party.
lambasting BJP chief Amit Shah for terming the act as surgical strike by Modi on black money and corruption, Mayawati said that surgical strike is done in a specific area but this has been done on the 125 crore people of the country.
After her meeting with senior leaders to discuss the present political situation on Thursday, Mayawati also released a booklet and CD of her speech at the death anniversary of party’s founder Kanshi Ram in lucknow on October 9. She informed that these would be distributed in all 403 Assembly segments of the state.
