Mayawati seeks votes, vows to provide fearless society

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati attacked the Samajwadi Party government claiming that only corruption and crime prevailed in the state during the tenure of Akhilesh Yadav as chief minister. She was addressing a rally in Barabanki on Wednesday afternoon.

“Not development (vikas), only corruption and crime became synonymous with Uttar Pradesh during the Samajwadi Party’s regime,” asserted Mayawati while attacking CM Akhilesh Yadav on his much publiced campaign `kam bolta hai’ to garner support on development.

“Most projects completed in Akhilesh’ regime were started during the BSP’s tenure. The SP government inaugurated only unfinished projects and a majority of them were not taken up further after laying the foundation stone,” she claimed.

Citing over 500 incidents of riots and henious crimes during the SP regime, Mayawati said that the Akhilesh Yadav government failed to take stern action against BJP leaders accused in Muzaffarnagar riots as both parties ‘had a tacit nexus to divide the society on communal lines’.

``I wanted to tell the minorities that they should vote for the BSP as it is the only party which could give a fearless society to everyone,” said Mayawati.

The BSP boss also attacked the BJP for doring politics on communal lines and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had done everything to facilitate his industrialists friends and demonetisation was one which only the rich flourished while the common man had to face the brunt.

“There are several lakh people working as labourers or minial jobs in big cities to win their bread. Now after demonetisation, a majority of them had lost their jobs and were forced to return to their native towns. The people who suffered will not forgive the PM and pay him back through ballots and teach him a lesson1,” she asserted.

MayAwati also warned the Dalits that if the BJP managed to win then even reservation in jobs would also come under scrutiny or even withdrawn and hence they should unite to defeat both the Modi and SP-Congress alliance to ensure BSP’s victory.

Expressing satisfaction over the second phase of polling on Wednesday, Mayawati said that it indicated that the BSP was surging towards a majority.

Congratulating party workers, leaders and the people of the state, Mayawati said there were reports that polling in the remaining five phases will be equally encouraging for her party.

“Although leaders of parties like BJP and SP-Congress alliance are making tall claims of win, people only have faith on the ‘tried and tested’ BSP leadership as they know Mayawati believed in doing what she promises,” the BSP chief added.
