Mayawati pledges to come back to power

The nation will remain strong when the strings of power are in the hands of the weaker sections of society, said Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati here on Wednesday. In a statement issued released on the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar’s death anniversary here on Wednesday morning, Mayawati renewed her pledge to come back to power for the betterment of the weaker sections. The former chief minister paid rich tributes to Babasaheb and garlanded his statue at the BSP party headquarters here. Mayawati said Babasaheb wanted India to become a strong nation based on humanitarian approach and free of casteism. She pointed out that people from weaker and under-privileged sections know that the intentions of governments in the states and at the Centre were malafide and their policies are discriminatory.

Mayawati said if Dr Ambedkar had not been pressurised through the Poona Pact, dalits and people from backward classes would have been occupying seats right from the mayor’s posts to legislative Assemblies and lok Sabha. While lamenting that political parties had failed to give the respect he deserved, the BSP leader said the nation was indebted to Babasaheb for what he did to improve the lives of people who were poor, oppressed, exploited and discriminated against. Despite there being 30 dalit members in the Constituent Assembly, only Babasaheb emerged as the saviour of dalits, backwards and exploited sections of the society.

launching a scathing attack on the BJP governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati said the law and order situation was deteriorating and not much was being done for the welfare of the 22-crore population in the state. Crimes were on the rise while the criminals were having a free run in the state, which has also been highlighted by the statistics compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
