Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) over 'undeclared emergency' in the country for the last four years alleging that Dalits and backwards were being pushed to the corner and efforts were being made to deny them their democratic right of reservation facility. "The country is going through a state of undeclared emergency as democratic rights of the people were being snatched and the people were feeling 'suffocated' due to the prevailing situation,” charged Mayawati. "Demonetisation was yet another move to clamp economic emergency in the country," she pointed out while reacting to the 43th anniversary of Emergency on Tuesday.
"The situation now is similar like 1975, when Emergency was clamped in the country," she said. Claiming that the BJP has lost the right to say anything on Dalits and backwards, the BSP chief said that atrocities against these communities have increased during the BJP regime while the poor, farmers, labourers and members from other communities were being harassed. The BSP chief also criticised the BJP for trying to snatch reservation facilities from the backwards and Dalits. "As the government was promoting private sector in the government, hence reservation could be severely affected," she asserted. "The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi need to introspect on the undeclared emergency-like situation. They should find a solution to problems such as poverty, unemployment and inflation and prove their patriotism," Mayawati claimed. She alleged that the BJP government resorts to 'new gimmicks' and whip up communal passions on a regular basis to run away from its constitutional obligations towards people. "Making tall claims about patriotism has become the BJP's habit to conceal its anti-people policies," she said. The BSP chief said that the BJP leaders had a 'casteist' record and their morale was so high that they were openly threatening the media.
