Mayawati for Prez rule in Rajasthan

Grabbing the opportunity of snatching her party legislators in Rajasthan, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Saturday called for immediate imposition of President’s rule in the state citing the prevailing political instability there.

In a tweet, she said, “As is known that Rajasthan Chief Minister Mr Gehlot first openly violated the anti-defection law and betraying the BSP for the second time in a row, included the party MLAs in Congress and now, in a well known manner, he has done another illegal and unconstitutional work by tapping phones.”

The BSP leader said, “Thus, the Governor should take effective cognisance of the continuous political deadlock, mutual disturbances and governmental instability in Rajasthan and recommend the imposition of President’s rule there, so that democracy does not further suffer in that state.”

The role of BSP is being considered important in the latest political developments in Rajasthan. Six BSP MLAs in Rajasthan had been giving outside support to the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan but the Congress had included these MLAs in their party in September last year. These MLAs had assumed formal membership of the Congress in January.

The BSP has alleged that the Congress has broken its MLAs by luring them away. BSP chief Mayawati had even demanded the resignation of Gehlot in this matter. The BSP had also approached the Election Commission in this regard but the EC refused to intervene in this matter.
