After attacking the Prime Minister for delay in appointment of lokpal to check corruption at high places, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati further flayed Modi for the pathetic condition of Dalits in Gujarat.
With her eyes on Assembly polls in Gujarat scheduled at the end of this year, Mayawati on Friday claimed that Dalits were living in pitiable condition there and that they should ‘unite and uproot’ the BJP in the upcoming poll.
“The condition of Dalits, Adivasis (tribals) and the poor among the ‘sarva samaj’ is very bad in Gujarat. The capitalists and the rich were ruling the roost. The social fabric there has been disturbed. There is excessive discrimination with Muslims and they have no place to get justice,” she said.
Mayawati was speaking at a review meeting of her party’s Gujarat unit in lucknow on Friday morning.
“If the deprived sections there (in Gujarat) unite on the basis of mutual brotherhood and contest the coming Assembly poll, they can oust the communal and casteist BJP,” she said.
Admitting that the number of Dalits in the western state was less, the BSP chief said the Una incident had forced the community to question the establishment.
Four Dalit youths were brutally thrashed by ‘cow vigilantes’ at Una in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat in July last year. The incident had led to massive protests in various parts of the country.
Instructing party workers for the Gujarat polls, Mayawati said that her party would fight for the rights of Adivasis and end their harassment.
After the crushing defeat during the recent UP Assembly poll, Mayawati has been trying to mobilise workers and leaders to revive the party in UP and other states.
