Mayawati criticizes CM over Saharanpur violence

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati lambasted Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath for the recent clash in Saharanpur and blamed the saffron appeasement policy of the state government for the violence.

“The Yogi government was doing nothing except appeasing goons of the saffron brigade. After triggering communal violence, the BJP was now promoting caste clashes,” she said.

In a statement issued in lucknow on Saturday, Mayawati expressed her concern on the Saharanpur violence where two communities clashed leading to the death of a person.

“How does a community take out a procession without permission of the police or local administration. This attitude of the government is unfortunate. “It has become a fashion to set new traditions by taking out processions without permission and create violence. The BJP government has totally failed to control such elements,” she said.

She further said that the law and order situation has dipped in the state and recent incidents of killing of a Muslim in Bulandshahr and violence against Dalits in Saharapur were the indicators of the Yogi government’s failure.

Expressing concern over the Saharanpur incident, she asked the government to immediately work towards restoring peace and order failing which the masses would lose faith in the government.

The former CM also ridiculed the daily announcements made by Yogi’s ministers on maintaining law and order and on the development front.

“Even after a month-and-a-half in office, the government has failed to improve anything. The law and order situation has worsened while developmental works have come to a halt. The BJP ministers were only making tall claims but doing nothing on the ground level,” she alleged.

“Murder, violence and playing with law and order has become a common sight in the name of saffron appeasement of the BJP regime which has also drove fear and terror among the people,” Mayawati said.

In Saharanpur, brickbats and shots were exchanged and hutments torched after a dispute over playing of loud music over an amplifier during a procession taken out by 20-25 Thakur youths from Shabbirpur village to Simlana village spiralled out of hands.

When some Dalit locals persistently objected, the dispute snowballed and resulted into a bloody clash leaving one dead and scores with serious injuries.
