Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati on Wednesday fired fresh salvo at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and  criticised him for unveiling Kanshi Ram’s statue in Rae Bareli.

“By unveiling the statue of Kanshi Ram, he is trying a political maneuver but the Dalit class is already aware of his intentions and will never go along with him”, asserted BSP chief.

She warned Dalits, backward, and Muslim communities to be wary of Samajwadi Party, which indulges in absurd issues like caste and ignoring development and public interest.

Akhilesh, while unveiling Kanshi Ram’s statue on Monday, said that the Bahujan Samaj would join hands with the SP to protect their rights and the constitution prepared by Babasaheb Ambedkar.

He also alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party was taking away the rights and reservations of Dalits and OBCs and humiliating them.

While referring to the SP-BSP alliance formed by BSP founder Kanshi Ram, Mayawati alleged that even after becoming the chief minister, late SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav’s intentions were not right. The BSP chief further stated that even today people questioned that in 1993, Honorable Kanshi Ram ji formed the SP-BSP alliance in a missionary spirit, but Mulayam Singh Yadav, who became the chief minister under the alliance, continued to malign the BSP and oppress Dalits.

Mayawati accused the SP of indulging in politics of hatred on absurd issues like caste instead of working for Uttar Pradesh's development and public interest.

She highlighted that at the SP’s program held in Rae Bareli on Monday, the party’s general secretary Swami Prasad Maurya spoke about the Ram Mandir movement and a controversial slogan of the 90s was raised against him, after which the police have registered a case against him.

Mayawati alleged that the SP was trying to use Kanshi Ram’s name politically while remaining ungrateful to Dr Ambedkar. On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party has dubbed the Bahujan Samaj Party as the B-team of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
