Slamming Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his failure to ensure the safety of women in the state, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has sought Centre's intervention in the matter.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also demanded President's Rule be imposed in the State. Her statement came hours after another case of brutal gang rape with a Dalit college student and her murder was reported in Balrampur. 'The incidents from Hathras and Balrampur have shocked me to the core. There is no rule of law in the state at the moment instead criminals, mafias and rapists are ruling the state. The law and order of the state has collapsed completely, the females in the state under the current regime are not safe at all,' Mayawati said in Lucknow on Thursday.
She said that she thought that Yogi Adityanath govt will take steps after the nation-wide outrage post-Hathras incident. 'I feel that anti-social elements have taken over the state completely and there is no rule of law left in Uttar Pradesh,' Mayawati said. She added that the Balrampur incident is a replay of Hathras incident and demanded that President's Rule should be imposed in the state.
Taking a dig at CM Yogi Adityanath, she said that he failed at ensuring the law and order in the state and that he should return to his 'Gorakhnath Math'. 'The BJP should entrust the government to some other leader who can manage things better,' she added. Mayawati also made a direct attack on Yogi Adityanath and said, 'Yogi Adityanath has also been born from the stomach of a woman, he should respect women. Today, crime is all around in UP. He should resign himself.'
Meanwhile the government reacted strongly to Mayawati statement attacking the chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Hathras and Balrampur incidents. Cabinet minister and government spokesman Siddhartha Nath Singh said that when Mayawati was Chief Minister, more than 1,000 Dalits had been killed. "The opposition is now trying to derive political mileage over the Hathras incident. Congress leaders are going to Hathras but they do not go to Rajasthan when similar incidents take place," he said.
Singh further said that crime against women had reduced in UP and incidents of rape had also recorded a decline in the Yogi Adityanath regime. He charged that the jungle raj prevails during BSP and Samajwadi Party’s regimes in the State. "The opposition is trying to regain its lost ground and are making issues unnecessarily," he said. The minister further said that the SIT was investigating the Hathras incident and the opposition should wait for the report.
