Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati charged the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and main opposition Samajwadi Party of criminalising politics in Uttar Pradesh and said that after pushing the state to `jungle raj’, their rhetoric (jumlebaazi) continues unabated.
In response, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the opposition parties of creating turmoil at the time of elections without doing any constructive work while being in power.
Ahead of the assembly elections in UP, Mayawati accused her rival BJP of indulging in jumlebaazi and the SP of patronising anarchic elements.
Without naming the SP and the BJP, Mayawati tweeted on Tuesday, "Except BSP, the governments of all parties criminalising politics and politicising crime, playing with the law and protecting their party's goons and mafia, etc., pushed UP to jungle raj. They are guilty of troubling the public, but their rhetoric continues.”
On Monday too, the BSP said that fear, corruption, discrimination, life and property, insecurity of religion i.e. poor law and order in UP, unemployment and migration of lakhs were the biggest problems of this huge population of the state, which was increasing continuously and causing frustration to people. The society and the state were lagging behind and this was very sad.
“Under the BSP government, two and a half lakh poor families were provided with basic amenities. Apart from this, preparations were on to build 15-20 lakh more houses. This work remained incomplete due to the change of government. The BJP is trying to capitalise on this. What have they done for themselves?” she tweeted.
While launching her party’s poll campaign, the BSP chief is scheduled to address a public meeting in Agra on February 2.
On Tuesday, BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra said, “The national president of BSP and former chief minister of UP, Mayawati will address a public meeting in Agra following Covid rules. The time and venue of the public meeting and information about upcoming public meetings will be made available to the media soon.”
So far Mayawati has not been as active in the UP assembly elections as other political parties and her political activity has been confined to Twitter. However, considering her strong vote bank, she is still considered to be the one to make a difference.
