Mayawati: Rivals using gimmicks, hollow promises to win civic polls

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday accused the rival parties of adopting gimmicks like sama, daam, dand, bhed to win the urban local bodies polls by any means.

She appealed to people to use their constitutional right and obligation to vote and ensure the victory of faithful and honest candidates who would work for `Sarvjan Sukhai-Sarvjan Hitai’.

The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh said in a tweet: "For the first phase of polling for the UP civic elections to be held on May 4, the rival parties have continuously used many tactics including sam, daam, dand, bhed, to influence the voters on caste and religion lines.”

“This is your valuable constitutional rights and obligation to vote and elect a right candidate,” she added while appealing to the people to come out and use their franchise to select those who were ready to work for the entire society.

“For this election also, the Bharatiya Janata Party and other rival parties have indulged in making tempting promises,” she further tweeted, claiming that they all were hollow promises confined just to papers.

She said that all the rival parties were busy in misleading the public by one or the other promise but the public was well aware of such gimmicks.

Mayawati appealed to the people to vote only for the BSP candidates for the benefit and development of the entire region as well as to enjoy the best civic amenities.
