The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will celebrate party chief Mayawati’s 65th birthday on Friday as ‘Jan Kalyankari Diwas’ in an austere manner owing to the pandemic.
Urging workers to keep her birthday low key, Mayawati said that she would be releasing a book ‘A Travelogue of My Struggle Ridden Life and BSP Movement, Vol 16’ to further strengthen the self respect of cadres and the party.
The BSP, earlier, used to celebrate the occasion in a grand manner and party leaders / workers collected funds. But faced with intense criticism over the issue, the party started celebrating the day as ‘Jan Kalyankari Diwas’.
On her birthday-eve, Mayawati tweeted on Thursday that her birthday be celebrated in a simple manner due to the pandemic.
“The day should be celebrated as Jan Kalyankari Divas and party workers and leaders should help the poor and needy, “ she posted.
BSP general secretary Satish Mishra said that party leaders and workers would visit villages and hospitals to distribute sweets and fruits and that leaders have been directed to follow Covid protocol during the celebration.
There would be no assembly of party workers and Mayawati's book would also be launched in the presence of a handful of news agency journalists.
