Maya takes dig at oppn unity meet in Patna

On the eve of the much-publicised opposition unity meeting in Patna, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati took a dig at the gathering of non-National Democratic Alliance parties with the sarcastic remark, “Dil mile ya na mile, haath milate rahiye” (whether or not hearts meet, but keep shaking hands).

In a couple of tweets on Thursday, Mayawati wrote, “By the way, keeping in mind the preparations for the next Lok Sabha elections and before making such an attempt, it would have been better if these parties, with the pride of instilling general confidence in the public, would have cleared their intentions by peeping into their own heart. How long will they continue with the saying “Muh me Ram, bagal me chhuri”.

She said the issues that the opposition parties were raising together ahead of the Patna meeting organised by Nitish Kumar keeping the Lok Sabha elections in mind could be aptly described by an old saying – ‘Dil mile na mile haath milate rahiye’.

“It is clear from the condition of Bahujans in the country who are suffering from inflation, poverty, unemployment, backwardness, illiteracy, caste hatred, religious frenzy/violence, etc. that proper implementation of the humanistic and egalitarian Constitution of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar has been ignored by the Congress in the past and the Bharatiya Janata Party at present,” she added.

“Eighty Lok Sabha seats in UP is said to be the key to electoral success, but it does not seem from the attitude of the opposition parties that they are serious and truly concerned about their objective. Without the right priorities, will the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections really bring about the necessary change?” she asked in another Twitter post.

Mayawati is not participating in the upcoming meet in Patna, maintaining her stand not to make a tie-up with either BJP or Congress.
