Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Saturday slammed the state government’s move to appoint lok Kalyan Mitras at block-level, terming it as a waste of government funds.
“The BJP government’s recent decision to appoint lok Kalyan Mitras at blocks for dissemination of information and feedback on various government schemes is proof that these schemes are not benefiting the poor and needy,” Mayawati said in a statement released in lucknow.
The BSP chief said that these appointments proved that there was no enthusiasm among the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh cadre at ground level and the party was presuming its cadre were inert and non-functional.
Mayawati sought to counsel the BJP government that instead of resorting to such wasteful expenditure, it should fill various vacant posts at the government level and provide employment to youths from different sections.
She further said that the government decision also exposed that the huge expenditure made on advertisement of government schemes in print, electronic and digital media etc. went down the drain as they failed to inform the masses about the schemes.
“If the public is unaware of government-run schemes, then it raises serious question on the BJP brass’ claim that people are benefiting from these schemes. It also exposes the truth about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s claims of the success of government schemes,” the former Chief Minister of UP said.
Early this week, the state government decided to appoint 822 lok Kalyan Mitras, one in each block, through written examination to publicise government schemes and programmes at village level. They would be paid Rs 25,000 per month along with Rs 5,000 as conveyance allowance every month.
