Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati launched a scathing attack, criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party’s stand on caste census and the Congress’s new slogan, ‘Jis ki jitni aabadi, uski utni hissedari’, as nothing more than election gimmicks.
In her statements, Mayawati took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party regarding the issue of the caste census, arguing that the current election scenario has led everyone to attempt to exploit these issues for political gain.
BSP national president said that the ongoing election fervour is a result of the alluring promises made by both the ruling Congress and the BJP in the run-up to the upcoming general elections.
“Why were these promises not fulfilled earlier,?” she asked and said that the announcements made by the Congress and the BJP lack sincerity.
Mayawati highlighted the hardships faced by the country’s citizens, including inflation, poverty, unemployment and corruption. She accused both the Congress and BJP of attempting to exploit issues like the caste census, OBC (Other Backward Classes) reservations, and women’s reservations in elections as a means to divert attention from their own failures.
“The public is no longer gullible enough to be misled by these tactics,” he said.
Mayawati also questioned the credibility of Congress’s new election slogan, ‘As per the population, so is the share’, by pointing out that Congress has never implemented this principle in its party or government since India’s independence. She contrasted this with the BSP’s track record of implementing social justice by adhering to this principle within the party and during its tenure in government.
