Maya holds SP, BJP responsible for Muzaffarnagar riots

Blaming Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party for the riots in Muzaffarnagar that led to killing of 49 people, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati asked the party leaders to beware of the conspiracy of these two parties who can stoke communal fire in the state in future for political gains.

Addressing party workers including party office bearers and coordinators here she said that Muzaffarnagar riot was the handiwork of BJP and SP. They did this with precise intention to divide society on religious line ahead of lok Sabha elections. They want to sensitise their vote banks and therefore allowed people to kill each other.

"Beware of the anti-people stand of the Congress led UPA-II government and the Samajwadi Party government of Uttar Pradesh besides the communal conspiracy of the BJP. All these parties are trying to divide the society for their own benefit," she said and added: ''You will have to prevent these conspiracies and aware people about such plans.''

Hitting out at the SP government Mayawati, four-time Chief Minister of the state, alleged that the Muzaffarnagar-Shamli communal riots were the handiwork of the nexus between the SP and the BJP. She also criticised the Akhilesh Yadav government for shedding 'crocodile tears' for backward castes. The Rath yatra flagged off by the party in the name of social justice was just an attempt to woo them. ''SP is responsible for depriving the backwards of their rights. What it has done for the backwards. The party has so far treated only Yadavs as backwards and deprived others of their rights. When other backwards are now supporting BSP the Samajwadi party has launched a campaign to woo them because of coming lok Sabha elections'' she stated.

The BSP President held a threadbare meeting of the party workers and senior office bearers. She asked the leaders to strengthen the party organisation and the 'Bhaichara' committees. Mayawati also asked them to identify the mistakes of the party workers and suggest methods to remove them. "This Samajwadi Party Government has failed to perform as per the expectations of the people. The law and order situation is bad. The development has come to a naught. Go to the villages and expose the misdeeds of the Government so that people could punish Samajwadi Party in the forthcoming lok Sabha election," Mayawati told party workers.
