Maya hails creation of Telangana Seeks division of bigger states

Welcoming creation of Telangana as the country’s 29th state, the Bahujan Samaj Party advocated division of other big states for their better development.

“The BSP has always favoured creation of new states. The party welcomes creation of Telangana where the BSP has two legislators,” BSP supremo Mayawati said in a statement issued here on Monday.

Telangana became the 29th state of India after K Chandrashekhar Rao was sworn-in as its Chief Minister.

The new state has been carved out of Andhra Pradesh.

Mayawati demanded better financial assistance for Telangana and Seemandhra areas from the Centre for better development of both the regions.

“The BSP believes that after creation of Telangana, the area will march on the path of progress and bring prosperity for the people,” Mayawati said in the statement.

Congratulating the people of the area, Mayawati said her party had always supported a separate Telangana state and had struggled both inside and outside Parliament for it.

“The party wants all big states to be divided into smaller states for better development of the region and the country,” she said.

When Mayawati was Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, she had sent a proposal for division of UP into four regions — Harit Pradesh, Bundelkhand, Awadh and Poorvanchal.

The BSP had also supported BJP during creation of Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
