Hitting out at Mayawati, Bharatiya Janata Party state president Mahendra Nath Pandey said that her anti-BJP rant reflected her frustration as she now realised that Bahujan Samaj Party was fast losing support of the people because they were happy with the pro-people policies of the BJP governments both at the Centre and in the state.
Reacting to the allegations of Mayawati, the BJP state president said that people had stopped taking a leader seriously who only thought about herself and her family.
"She is angry with demonetisation because (Narendra) Modi's one decision reduced the ill-earned money into trash. She says the poor have suffered due to demonetisation whereas it is a fact that rich (people) like her have suffered and not the poor," Pandey said at an impromptu press conference here on Sunday.
He said the BJP government was working for the betterment of the poor. "It is the BJP which has built houses for the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and has provided them free electricity connections. Under Mudra Yojana, loans have been sanctioned to 14 crore people and under UJALA scheme, over 30 crore LED bulbs have been issued," the BJP state president said.
"These are the schemes which have benefited the poor and therefore the people ignored the BSP in the 2017 Vidhan Sabha election, reducing it to just 19 seats," he added.
Pandey said the BJP would sweep the 2019 Lok Sabha election in UP because the people were with the BJP and not the BSP.
