Maya demands EC action against Modi

Published on:

A day after opposition parties questioned coverage of Narendra Modi’s nomination in Varanasi, which they said was one-sided, BSP president Mayawati said that Election Commission should take note of this and pass stricture against BJP and its candidate.

''I urge EC to look into the media trend of giving someone unduly publicity because the crowd which came to Varanasi during nomination were hired people and were outsiders. This reaffirms my allegation that a section of media is giving undue publicity to him and EC should look into it,''she said while addressing reporters here on Friday.

.Alleging that the BJP-SP nexus could engineer an attack in Varanasi to polarise the Hindu-Muslim to their benefit, Mayawati said EC should take precautionary measures in this regard.

'I have urged the EC to deploy central forces at temples, mosques and other important installations of Varanasi instead of security of Uttar Pradesh,' she said.

Mayawati said her party had an apprehension that SP and BJP were working in tandem and could go to any extent to polarise the lok Sabha election in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.. 'This is why, Mulayam SinghY adav is contesting from Azamgarh in additional to his traditional seat of Mainpuri,' she said.

'I have already informed the EC about this and sought appropriate action,' she said.

Mayawati also took a jibe at the supplementary manifesto of the Congress which talks about Muslim reservation. ''There is nothing new in it as Uttar Pradesh government had already proposed it when BSP was in the power in the state," she said.

She also rubbished the claim of SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav for the top post of the country and said ''The person who cannot control the state (Uttar Pradesh), how can He control the country.''

When asked about the reported claim of BJP leader Uma Bharti about 40 MlAs of SP and other parties in UP were in touch with the BJP, the former UP Chief Minister ridiculed the statement and said '"she does not know about her own future and still taking big.''
