Maya blames BJP for BSP's failure in Delhi elections

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) sumpremo, Mayawati blamed Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) government for debacle of her and other political parties in the recent Delhi assembly polls and claimed that even the Aam Aadmi Party, which swept the polls, would be a failure in Delhi due to its tall and fake promises, just like earlier made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during last Parliament elections.

“There is no threat of AAP in Uttar Pradesh, as they will be a failure in Delhi due to their unachievable promises made during the elections like BJP did during the lok Sabha polls,” she asserted, adding that AAP had already faced humiliating defeat in UP during the lok Sabha polls. “It was the arrogance of BJP and Narendra Modi that cost them the Delhi polls,” she added. She termed the defeat of BSP and other political parties in Delhi elections were only due to the peoples’ annoyance with the nine-month-old Narendra Modi government at the Centre for its anti-people and anti-farmer approach.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday morning, Mayawati said the poll results in Delhi was one-sided. “Just like during the lok Sabha elections, people voted for BJP opposing the Congress and its allies, similarly, in Delhi too BJP got the taste in just 9 months of its rule,” she claimed and added that BJP just got 31 per cent votes in the lok Sabha polls.

The BSP president did not spare a word criticising the BJP for opting unethical and undemocratic ways to spread its tentacles in the country. “BJP is trying to increase its membership base through fake methods while in Jharkhand they gained majority by luring MlAs. In Bihar too, BJP is trying to adopt undemocratic ways to impose President’s rule,” she alleged. She claimed that after the Delhi result, the BJP workers and leaders were depressed.

When asked whether the BSP would loose the national party status in wake of recent poor performances, she tried to aver the question saying it was the headache of the Election Commission. BSP received just 1.3 per cent of votes in Delhi elections without winning any seat and was on the verge of loosing national party status.

The BSP supremo lambasted the NDA government for shedding the welfare schemes meant for the poor like that of MNREGA and Food Security Act. ‘The Centre during its nine month of governance has only given benefits to the industrialists while the common masses are being neglected,’ she claimed while adding that Narendra Modi has forgotten all his promises made to the poor people of the country. On the occasion, Mayawati did not spared the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh and alleged that even after law and order deterioration and other lapses, the government was running with the blessing of the BJP.

She claimed that in the 2017 assembly elections in UP, BSP would be the only political parties to get the peoples’ support as SP and BJP will loose its credential by their failures in UP and Centre respectively. The former UP CM also claimed that the BJP even after winning record number of lok Sabha seats in UP, has done nothing for the state and has now joined the SP with ditching the people. Mayawati would be holding a meeting of the party leaders here on coming Sunday to discuss on the Delhi polls results besides will chalk out strategy to strengthen the party at the national level.
