Maya attacks BJP, Sena over Ayodhya buildup

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Saturday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena over the developments at Ayodhya alleging that the Ram temple issue was being raked up by parties to divert people’s attention from their failures before the next Parliament poll.

The former UP Chief Minister said that since the matter was before the Supreme Court, it would be better for all parties and outfits to wait for its verdict and not rake it up to scoop political mileage out of it.

“It is almost years that the BJP has been in power at the Centre. Even as the general elections inch closer, the BJP, especially Narendra Modi, knows that they have not fulfilled half the promises made in 2014. They know that they won’t be back in power and are hence raising the issue to divert public attention from their failures,” Mayawati said in a tweet on Saturday.

“Had their intentions been good, they need not have waited for five years. It’s their political tactics, nothing else. Whatever BJP allies like Shiv Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) are doing is part of a conspiracy. Various outfits are holding programmes at Ayodhya on Saturday and Sunday in the name of pushing for the early construction of Ram temple,” the BSP chief asserted.

Mayawati also urged party cadres to stay away from outfits like Bhim Sena, who were using her and the BSP’s name to gather people at their rallies and seek donation. Without naming Bhim Sena protagonist Chandrashekhar Azad’s outfit, she said that such outfits might play in the hands of Opposition parties, particularly the BJP, during elections. She alleged that such outfits were trying to pit people from different castes against each other and the same would only lead to violence and polarisation in the society.
