With all senior leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party campaigning vigorously for their candidates in the bypoll to the Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat which fell vacant after the resignation of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati also made an appeal to the voters to ensure victory of her party candidate, saying it would be a befitting reply to the anti-people policies of both SP and BJP.
Voting for the Azamgarh and Rampur bypolls will be held on June 23. Congress has decided to remain away from the contest while the BSP also has not fielded any candidate from Rampur parliamentary constituency.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday morning, the BSP chief sought votes from the public for party candidate Guddu Jamali. She also targeted the SP and BJP fiercely. Mayawati also said that victory of the BSP would teach the SP a lesson about their complicity with the BJP.
Mayawati said that Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali had been given a BSP ticket for Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat and he had also been BSP MLA several times. “He has helped people of all religions by rising above party politics. Candidates of other parties are nowhere to be seen at such times,” she said.
Mayawati said that the people had a chance to teach the SP a lesson about their complicity with the BJP by ensuring victory of the BSP candidate.
Mayawati also mentioned the Agnipath scheme of the Central government. She said that though it was a by-election, it was important for the people as they could teach a lesson to the BJP for its anti-people schemes like Agnipath and its methods of using bulldozers. “People can also punish SP (in this by-election) for internal alliance with BJP. This will again show that BSP is more powerful (party) to defeat BJP than SP in Uttar Pradesh, “she claimed.
