Maya accuses govt of inaugurating half-baked projects

Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati hit out at the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government, charging that mere announcements, laying foundation stones and inaugurating half-baked projects would not help the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party to win the coming assembly elections in 2022.

Mayawati also congratulated Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on completing 100 years and hoped that in the 2022 Punjab assembly polls, the SAD-BSP alliance would be able to secure a comfortable majority and form the government.

"Before the announcement of the polls, the Centre and UP government are making announcements one after the other, laying foundation stones and inaugurating half-baked projects. This will not strengthen the base of the BJP and the people of the state have understood this very clearly. Even then, I would like to appeal to people to remain cautious of such tricks," Mayawati told media persons in Lucknow on Tuesday.

The BSP chief’s statement came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor in Varanasi. The prime minister is currently on a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi where he inaugurated Phase 1 of the newly-constructed Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor at a cost of around Rs 339 crore on Monday.

Later, training her guns at the Samajwadi Party, Mayawati said, "No political party is going to benefit by inducting expelled, inactive and selfish members of other parties, right before the UP assembly elections. The public does not view such parties and members in a good way."

On Sunday, BJP MLA Digvijay Narayan Chaubey, expelled BSP MLA Vinay Shanker Tiwari and former MP Kushal Tiwari had joined the Samajwadi Party.

Meanwhile, the BSP chief expressed hope that the alliance of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) would come to power in Punjab with full majority in the next assembly elections under  the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal.

"There are only a few parties who have served the nation this long. This is the oldest regional party and has served the people of its state," Mayawati said while congratulating Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on completing 100 years.

Ahead of the Punjab assembly elections in 2022, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal recently announced that if his party came to power then the deputy chief minister would be from its alliance partner Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
