Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Wednesday gave clear instructions to the officers of the Rural Development department to take all necessary steps to expedite the construction of Amrit Sarovars.

Maurya said he would visit villages to inspect the progress of the Amrit Sarovar work.

“Amrit Sarovar should be built in such a way that it becomes a part of village development and rural tourism centre. It should prove to be a boon for water harvesting and conservation and should also prove helpful in environmental protection and promotion,” Maurya said, adding that it should also send a positive message to society that they all should show concern towards the environment.

Maurya was reviewing the progress of works of the Rural Development department in his room at Vidhan Bhawan here on Wednesday. He directed the top officers of the department, chief development officer and block development officer to make surprise inspections of the Amrit Sarovar works.

He said stern action should be taken against the officers and employees adopting a casual approach towards the timely completion of work.

He directed that a booklet should be published and distributed to the MLAs about the works to be done from the MLA Local Area Development Fund. He said the funds should be allocated work wise and time limit should be fixed for completing the works.

While reviewing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) scheme, Maurya said that after the selection of eligible beneficiaries in this scheme, stern action should be taken against those who were ineligible but had cornered a house.

He said that it had come to his notice that after the release of the first installment in some cases, while sending the second installment and in some cases the third installment, it was mentioned that the beneficiary was ineligible and the next installment was not given to him/her. He said that such irregularity should happen in future and the eligibility of the beneficiary should be checked in advance.

Maurya also emphasised that the block development officer would reside at the block headquarters and the higher officials would ensure it and if the BDO was found missing appropriate action should be taken.

Maurya said he would soon undertake a Gram Vikas Yatra and inspect the rural development projects. He asked the officials to nominate nodal officers so that they could brief him of the progress during his tour.

He said that in addition to the works prescribed in MNREGA, an action plan should be made to include more works related to village development. He said Rs 1,500 crores had been paid for women mates and Rs 250 crores would be sent on Friday.

He said that distribution of acceptance letters etc in the beneficiary schemes of the department should be done while organising functions in villages. He said that a list of 75 rivers, which were being revived this year, should be made available.

Maurya said that the revised cost of the projects for construction of marriage halls and funeral site should be presented soon. HE directed officials to make a draft for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (Rural).
