Close on the heel of killing of sitting pradhan in Gorakhpur, yet another former block development committee member was shot dead over some political dispute in Pratapgarh on Saturday morning.
Surprisingly, the sensational killing was allegedly executed by a deputy commissioner in excise department, who also reportedly had an old property dispute with the victim in his native Aspur Devpura area of Pratapgarh.
Reports said that former BDC member Moti lal Maurya (42) had some dispute with the wife of deputy excise commissioner Jung Bahadur Singh, who is posted in Varanasi, in Sardoh village of Pratapgarh on Saturday morning. Both reportedly hurled abuses on each other. The matter took an ugly turn when Jung Bhadhur warned Moti lal but when the victim continued to use objectionable language, senior government official lost his cool.
According to Superintendent of Police in Pratapgarh, Akhilesh Chaurasia, Jung Bhadhur took out license weapon from his house and opened fire from almost point blank range hitting the bullet on Maurya’s temple. Critically injured Maurya was immediately rushed to the district hospital where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. later on the complaint of Maurya’s family, an FIR has been lodged against Jung Bhadhur, his wife and daughter, and efforts were on to arrest the accused, who locked the house and slipped soon after the incident.
Meanwhile two more killings were reported from Azamarh and Chitrakut districts on Saturday. In Azamgarh, 50-year-old Chowdhary Prajapati, a resident of Basihpur hamlet of Bilriyaganj had reportedly gone to his farmhouse on Friday night. He was later brutally stabbed to death probably some time in the wee hours of Saturday. The family members found his body lying in pool of blood on Saturday morning. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
In another case reported from Chitrakut, the body of 22-year-old Nan Bhaiya, a resident of Peermau locality of Rajapur, was found lying in pool of blood inside the campus of local Junior High School on Saturday morning. He seems to be brutally stabbed to death sometime on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday morning. The motive behind the killing was also not clear. local police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Efforts were made to extract the motive behind the killing.
