Crime against women found mention in the state assembly on Friday when leader of Opposition Swamy Prasad Maurya questioned Government’s sincerity in dealing with such crimes which are on the rise in Uttar Pradesh. Raising the issue during zero hour here on FridayMaurya said that of late there is a spurt in incidents of crime against women. They are being raped and then killed. In some cases criminals pour acid over them while the police remain a mute spectator, he said.

To buttress his point he narrated incidents of Etah, Kanpur, Bijnore and Gorakhpur where crime against fairer sex was reported in last one week’s time. “All these incidents took place in last few days and in majority of the cases police have failed to arrest the criminals,” he said. “The Samajwadi Party came to power with a promise to improve law and order. Instead, the situation has deteriorated only because of political interference,” the leader of Opposition said. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Azam Khan said that such incidents are not a matter of pride for any government. There is no politics involved in this. It brings bad name to the administration. “But this is a fact too where ever such incidents have happened Government had acted with alacrity. The culprits have been arrested and aggrieved party has been extended relief,” Khan said.

Senior Minister Kailash Yadav said that delimitation of gram sabhas in 69 districts have been completed and it would be through in remaining districts by March end. He was answering to a question of lokendra Singh (BJP). Panchayat elections are expected in the mid of this year and would be carried out after delimitation of the gram sabhas. Bus fare: Transport Minister Durga Prasad Yadav said that there is no proposal to reduce Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus fare in view of decline in diesel prices.

Answering a question of Dharampal Singh (BJP) and Anugrah Narain Singh (Congress) he said that Government had reduced the fare by one paise per km on November 28, 2014. “Now, we do not have any proposal to reduce bus fare. For private players we have fixed the fares. They are bound to charge the prescribed fare. Government would take action against any erring transporters,” he said.

Prisoners: Government also said that there was no proposal to increase the remuneration of prisoners. During question hour a senior minister Balram Yadav said prisoners are paid Rs 40, Rs 30 and Rs 20 depending upon whether they are skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled workers. Dalbir Singh (RlD) demanded that remuneration of the prisoners should be brought at par with Government announced rates for same category of labourers. Minister said it is not possible as Government gives the prisoners three time food, cloths and take care of other needs. The allocated money is sufficient as per their needs, the minister said.
