Maurya orders drive to make all roads pothole-free

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya who holds the Public Works Department portfolio, has directed the officers to launch a campaign to expedite ongoing road constructions by the PWD besides filling all potholes across the state from September 15 to October 15 to make Uttar Pradesh ‘gaddha mukt’ (pothole-free).

At a meeting convened to review departmental works in Lucknow on Friday, the deputy chief minister said that during the campaign, PWD officers should be physically present in the field, inspect the ongoing road works and immediately fix any problem that they come across or be ready to face the consequences.

“Besides completing the ongoing works within stipulated time, new works should be started in consultation with the local people’s representatives. If the pace of work is found to be sluggish without any concrete reason, then action will be taken against officers and employees concerned,” he warned.

Maurya said that 100 per cent of the budget allocated for construction works should be utilised within the stipulated time frame. “Special attention should be paid to the work of rural roads, minor bridges and link roads. Expedite the work of making access roads to religious places. For all projects that have been finished, officers should procure a 'work completion’ certificate so that new projects could be started. All those companies who failed to complete the work within the time frame should be immediately blacklisted so that they could be kept away in future to ensure a smooth pace of development in Uttar Pradesh,” the PWD minister said.
