Maurya asks PWD  to connect hamlets with 2-lane roads

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Wednesday directed senior officials of Public Works Department to identify hamlets with population of over 250 persons that were yet to be connected by two-lane roads.

"Find out whether any hamlet with 250 population is left to be connected with two-way road despite being in a five-kilometres radius of a city. If any such hamlet comes to light, then it be connected by two-lane road immediately," directed Maurya during a meeting with PWD officials on Wednesday.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that 449 such projects had already been given clearance for ensuring connectivity.

Warning PWD officials against corrupt practices, Maurya said that they must visit ongoing sites at regular intervals and ensure quality control and also timely completion of projects.

Maurya asked the PWD officials to take action against engineers who failed to give contract for construction of inter-state highways earlier sanctioned by the government.

"All roads which have been damaged due to rains be repaired immediately. Officers must review those roads selected as 'Herbal Roads' and see whether the plantation drive by the PWD is on the right course or not. Nodal officers should also be appointed for all such Herbal Roads," Maurya said.

The Deputy Chief Minister, who holds the PWD portfolio, also directed officials to identify roads connecting religious places and ensure that they were widened for smooth flow of traffic.

Officials have been asked to remove encroachments on PWD roads, which cause traffic snarls. They have also been directed to share progress of projects with people's representatives and maintain transparency.

Directing PWD officials to upgrade roadside signboards for assisting commuters at the earliest, Maurya said that all state highways be named after prominent personalities.
