Showing its annoyance over conditionality imposed by the Cultural Department of Uttar Pradesh Government in construction of pavilion administration of Maulana Ali Jauhar University has threatened to return the grant given by the Government for construction of medical college saying conditional grants are not acceptable to the university.
“The letter of the Cultural Department putting conditions in releasing funds for the construction of pavilion is unacceptable. The university is run by a trust and decision of the departments reflects anti-Muslim mentality of the officials,” Registrar of Maulana Ali Jauhar University R.A Qureshi said in his letter to Special secretary Cultural department, copy of which was released on Thursday.
The copy of the letter was sent to Principal secretary, Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Secretary, Government of UP and Principal Secretary, Department of Culture.
“A canard is being spread by political rivals that Government has spent crore for construction of Ali Jauhar University. Whereas the fact is all the buildings have been constructed through donation. State Government had only given Rs 10 crore that too in 2011 and the same was used through implementing agency C&DS, associated with Jal Nigam. University did not get a penny,” he said.
Qureshi said that recently Cultural department has issued a GO imposing restriction on construction of pavilion in the Ali Jauhar University. It had said that pavilion could be used for government functions whereas University is of the view that it should be used solely by the university for its function only. Moreover, the language used in the letter is not acceptable, he said.
“The University administration has decided not to accept any government grant on conditions. The trust is a minority trust which is committed to the welfare of Muslim students. But there are some officials in the government who does not want that minority children should get education. Therefore, they are putting hurdles and unnecessary pressures on the university administration,” the Registrar said. He said that University will not accept any government grant which will malign its image. “The University administration is seriously thinking about returning Rs 10 crore grant given by the government to set up medical college there,” he said.
