Union Home minister Rajnath Singh said that the Centre was ready for a CBI probe into the Mathura incident if the UP government recommends for the same as family members of slain SP (City) Mukul Dwivedi have demanded it.
"No one can deny that the UP government has failed to control activities of criminals, who had grabbed government land at Jawahar Bagh for the last two years. If the UP government wants, the Centre is ready to order a CBI probe," Singh said while addressing a Kisan Swahibhaman rally at Narangpur village in Amroha on Sunday.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has opposed a CBI probe claiming that the divisional level investigation was enough to nail the culprits of Mathura violence in which 26 people were killed.
Family members of slain top cop Mukul Dwivedi, have demanded a CBI probe into the conflict. The officer's widow, Archana Dwivedi said in Auriya on Sunday that her husband was made a 'scapegoat' and demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
She questioned that when there were trained cops to deal with such situations why were untrained policemen sent to the Jawahar Bagh in which her husband and another officer was killed.
The officer's brother Praful Dwivedi too dittoed the demand for a CBI probe and said truth will not come out if any state-level agency probes the incident. "This matter should be handed over to country's largest and independent investigation agency like CBI," he said.
Union Minister said that the entire country was stunned as to how criminals used arms and ammunition against the police. They had stockpile of ammunition in Jawahar Bagh and used it freely causing the death of two brave officers and injuries to several others.
“Uttar Pradesh is in the grip of misrule and corruption. People want relief from the SP government because they know that leaders of ruling party are giving patronage to these criminals,” the Union Minister said.
Singh said that once the BJP government comes to power in UP, a new era of development would start. He also narrated in detail about the achievements of the NDA government in the last two years.
The rally was also addressed by Union minister of state for Agriculture Sanjeev Baliyan and state BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya.
