A married woman and her lover ended their lives in Bahraich after the woman’s family objected to their affair.
Reports said that 24-year-old Suman of Kaundha village under Bondi police station of Bahraich district was having a love affair with Mohit Verma, a 21-year-old Pharmacy student living near her in-laws’ house.
According to the police, on Wednesday night, Suman’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law came to know about her love affair, leading to a scuffle. Miffed over this, Suman went to her room and after some time her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan.
Suman’s brother-in-law also threatened Mohit. When Mohit came to know that Suman had committed suicide, he also hanged himself in his room. Suman left behind a two-year-old daughter. Her husband, Rakesh, said that there was a dispute between Suman and his brother, who accused Suman of having illicit relations with Mohit, after which she committed suicide.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rural) Pavitra Mohan Tripathi said that Rakesh had informed that his wife had committed suicide by hanging herself in the room while Keshav Ram of the same village said that his son Mohit had also hanged himself.
