In yet another case of honour killing, a man shot dead his daughter and her friend after spotting them together in Badhauli hamlet of Meerut on Sunday.
As per reports, the 16-year-old girl and her 18-year-old beau were having a romantic liaison for about a year and it was not approved by the girl's father who had strongly reprimanded the girl in the recent past.
On Sunday, while returning home from work, the man noticed the young couple on the terrace. Incensed at what he saw, the man went straight inside his home, picked up a gun bought six months back and pumped four bullets into the youth before shooting his daughter. The panic stricken neighbours later informed the police after which the cops reached the scene of crime and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. While the boy was pronounced dead after reaching the hospital, the girl succumbed later during treatment. The police, however, managed to record the girl's statement before she breathed her last. A case was registered against the girl's father and investigations were on.
Meanwhile in Rae Bareli, an undertrial, accused of raping a minor, hanged himself in the washroom of district hospital on Sunday evening. The deceased, Ram Baran Yadav (38) was suffering from depression and had been admitted to the hospital on Friday. Superintendent of Police of Rae Bareli, Shlok Kumar, informed media persons that Yadav was a native of Bahraich and was accused of raping a minor in Bahraich in March, 2016. He was later arrested and lodged in Rae Bareli jail in 2020. For the past two weeks, Yadav was undergoing treatment in the jail hospital. However on Friday, after he fainted inside the jail hospital, he was admitted to the district hospital. On Sunday evening, when the constables deployed in Yadav’s security checked his room he was found missing. They later checked the washroom and found Yadav hanging from the window grill."
