A 30-year-old man was allegedly shot dead inside his house in Nakud police station area of Saharanpur, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday night when Nagendra Kumar, a resident of Fatehpur Jat village under Nakud police station, was sleeping in his house.
The family members heard a gunshot in the night and rushed to Kumar's room only to find him lying in a pool of blood, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Atul Sharma said, quoting the family.
He said that Kumar's brother Harendra spotted three people fleeing on a motorcycle and immediately informed the police.
Harendra filed a complaint, naming two people in the case, Sharma said, adding that the murder is believed to be the result of enmity, and the police were probing it.
The body was sent for post-mortem and three police teams had been formed to nab the assailants, the SP (Rural) said.
In another killing, the body of a Class 12 student of Agra University Model School was found lying in a pool of blood near a multi-storey building, some distance from the school.
His school bag was found on the third floor of the building.
Police officials assured a fair probe after his parents alleged some foul play.
"The body of a Class 12 student was found lying on the ground between two towers of a multi-storey building on Wednesday evening. The building houses an academy to train students aiming for IAS/PCS exams. The school is across the boundary," SP (City) Vikas Kumar said after visiting the spot.
Sources in University Model School revealed that the boy was good at studies but was not attending school since pre-board exams about a month ago. On Wednesday, he was dropped by his father at the school gate but CCTV footage revealed that he did not go to school.
The parents of the boy alleged foul play behind the death and created a ruckus at SN Medical College and Hospital where the body was rushed.
Police said the body had been sent for post-mortem and a probe was on.
Meanwhile, nearly six months after the death of a 45-year-old property dealer, his body was exhumed and sent for post-mortem in Baraut town of Baghpat district on Wednesday after his 20-year-old son with his first wife filed a police complaint alleging that his father was murdered by his stepmother in connivance with four others.
Following the directions of Baghpat Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadaun, a case was registered against five persons and the body was exhumed and sent for autopsy to ascertain the cause of the death of the complainant's father.
Shahzad, who had allegedly suffered a heart attack and died on September 3, 2021, was buried in a graveyard in Baraut the same day, police said.
However, last week, Shahzad's son Saadab approached the Baghpat district police chief with an audio clip, police said, adding that the conversation recorded in the clip suggested that his father had not died a natural death, but he was murdered allegedly by his second wife Parveen and four others.
“We had sent the audio clip for examination, and it turned out to be authentic. The voice tests of the accused, matched with the voices recorded in the audio clip. I then ordered registration of an FIR at Baraut police station and sought permission from the district administration to exhume the body for post-mortem,' the SP said. “However, no arrests have, so far, been made as we are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death,” the SP added.
Police, meanwhile, said Shahzad had married Parveen in 2007 after giving divorce to his first wife, Sameena. Shahzad had two sons with Sameena, who were also living with him along with his second wife.
