Director General of Police Sulkhan Singh stressed that top priority will be attached to maintaining public order and warned that any trouble to masses will be handled with iron fists or the officers responsible be ready to face the music. “Public order should be maintained at any cost and no one should be allowed to trouble others through protest or blocking of roads,” Singh said while asking officers to take action against those involved in breaking law of the land. “No new tradition should be allowed during religious ceremonies and the police should take preventive steps to avert any untoward incident,” he added.

Singh gave these directions while interacting with senior police officers including district chiefs, DIsG Range, IsG Zone etc through video conferencing in lucknow on Tuesday.

In his 10-minutes long directives to his junior colleagues, Singh tried to make it clear that no one should be spared for indulging in criminal activities, irrespective of the clout enjoyed by them.

“We have strict orders from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that policing should be done to ensure security of the people keeping their respect and honour intact. Action will be taken on anyone indulging in vigilantism in the name of Gau Raksha or moral policing as no one has the right to intervene in any law and order issue. Any ‘gundagardi’ will be acted upon and UP police will work with total impartiality,” the DGP said. Singh, made it clear that the personnel on duty for Anti-Romeo squads will act and take action only on people with objectionable behaviour and directed district police chiefs that special briefings be made before dispatching these squads. Similarly. the DGP directed for up-gradation of anti-violence squads. He also have standing orders to all police stations to register 100 per cent cases.

“We want to win the confidence of the people through our policing system and this is what our CM wants from us,” he stated while directing that any FIR against unknown person must be immediately registered and also in case any injured reached police station. The DGP also asked officers to ensure hygienic atmosphere in the police stations, barracks and at Reserve Police lines so that policemen or any visitor did not face any inconvenience. He also asked for regular parade in the Police lines. Singh also expressed his concern over traffic congestions and asked officials that he wanted a well planned `Traffic Management’ system in each district and instructed that traffic laws be strictly enforced.
