Magisterial probe ordered into Rae Bareli incident

With Congress national general secretary in-charge UP east, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, taking up the Rae Bareli incident, the Uttar Pradesh government ordered a magisterial inquiry into it even as Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma advised her not to get involved in this local issue.

“The district administration has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. The local district police chief has formed five police teams to nab the culprits,” Sharma told reporters here on Wednesday. He also said that an FIR had been registered against the culprits.

Denying any role of the state government or the Rae Bareli administration in the attack on Congressmen, Sharma advised Priyanka Gandhi Vadra not to get involved in local politics.

‘’The Congress leaders are frustrated at the zila panchayat being taken over by the BJP and so they are making wild allegations against the authorities,” he said, adding that what happened in Rae Bareli on Tuesday was a group clash between two factions of the Congress and it resulted in injuries to some people.

Sharma claimed that on the apprehension of the Congress members, the district authorities had deployed three companies of PAC and even Congress MLA Aditi Singh has been given additional security.

“How can anyone allege partisan behaviour of the state government in this issue?” he asked.

BJP candidate from Rae Bareli, MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh, also addressed the media in Lucknow, claiming innocent.

Dismissing allegations against him and his brother, Singh said, “We may have different political ideologies but no one in Rae Bareli can believe that I conspired an attack on Aditi, who is like a daughter to me. I along with my brothers are ready to face any probe in this matter.”

The no-confidence motion against Dinesh Pratap Singh’s brother Awadhesh Pratap Singh, who is chairman of Rae Bareli Zila Panchayat, was defeated and BJP now has the support of 31 members, Dinesh Sharma said.

Congress MLA Aditi Singh and her cavalcade was attacked on Tuesday when she was going to vote against Rae Bareli district panchayat chairman Awadhesh Pratap Singh. Aditi Singh was injured in the attack near Bachhrawan toll plaza on Lucknow-Rae Bareli highway. According to an eyewitness, shots were fired at the vehicles of the MLA and panchayat members opposing Awadhesh Pratap Singh while supporters of the zila panchayat chairman armed with lathis damaged three vehicles

The no-confidence motion against Awadhesh Pratap Singh was taken up on Tuesday on the direction of the Allahabad High Court.

Congress leaders claim that 31 members supported the no-confidence motion against Awadhesh Pratap Singh and this had irked the BJP leaders.
