Citing unhappiness of the lokayukt on the apathetic approach of agencies probing corruption of former BSP ministers, the state BJP apprehended that the SP will shield the corruption of the previous regime.
"The lokayukta has been compelled to say that many ex-BSP ministers would have faced stern action, had the probe agencies acted swiftly on his report," said state BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak.
Speaking to media persons at lucknow party headquarters on Monday, Pathak said :" One must not forget that senior cabinet minister Shivpal Singh Yadav had stated that if impartial inquiry was conducted then former CM Mayawati and several of her colleagues would have landed in jails" he added.
The BJP spokesman sought to know from the state government as to what was preventing it from taking action on the basis of findings of the lokayukta.
"After coming to power, the SP had promised to fight corruption and bring the EOW under the jurisdiction of lokyukta. What happened to this promise," asked Pathak reminding the SP government that it had also promised to set up a commission to probe corruption during BSP regime - another promise which was forgotten after one year in office.
The BJP spokesman also alleged that lawlessness had become the order of the day and shifting the DGP has hardly made any difference at the ground level.
"The culprits are fleeing from police custody, rapes have become frequent and robberies have become a every day affair while the police not only seems ineffective but also indifferent," Pathak said asking the government to take drastic steps to improve the situation.
